Pakistan Import & Export ……… “An Overview ”

Pakistan’s foreign trade has always been a trade of loss in terms of foreign exchange. The volume of imports has always been greater than exports due to the imports of oil & oil products. Besides oil, main commodities of imports may be divided in 5 groups. The largest group after oil is Food group comprising wheat, Soyabean oil, palm oil, sugar & pulses. After that Machinery group ; main items being power generator machines, textile machinery, Electric machinery and applications, construction & mining machinery and agricultural machinery. Fertilizers group, raw iron & steel groups & synthetic fiber group are also important.
On the other hands the main export commodity which always played a vital role in the economy of Pakistan being cotton & cotton made ups. In all 60% of Pakistan exports consists of this group. The other important export commodities are rice, leather & leather products, sports goods, carpets & rugs tapestry, surgical instruments, molasses, fish & fish preparations, fruit, vegetables & fruit juices, cutlery, marble & granites, gems & jewellery, oil seeds, nuts & kernels, handicrafts, poultry and IT services.
